NMAT 2026 registration has started on Thursday, 20th August 2026. Candidates can register till Saturday, 10th October 2026.
NMAT 2026 scheduling has also started on Thursday, 20th August 2026 and will continue till Thursday, 22nd October 2026.
The NMAT 2026 exam delivery window will be from Monday, 2nd November 2026 to Sunday, 20th December 2026. Candidates have a long exam window, but every date may not be available.
Some particular dates may be available; slots can get filled, and new slots may or may not open later. So, candidates need to choose their NMAT 2026 slot wisely.

The NMAT exam window gives candidates time to choose an attempt based on their preparation. The choice should also consider CAT, SNAP and the possibility of a retake.

Does Taking NMAT Later Reduce Your Score?
A common doubt is whether NMAT scores become lower if the exam is taken later in the testing window. The score does not become lower simply because a candidate appears later.
Well-prepared candidates often take NMAT in the beginning, while candidates who are not prepared may take it in the later part of the window. This can create the impression that candidates taking NMAT earlier get higher scores.
This was also seen in the NMAT 2023 attempts. Two attempts were taken on 10th October and 18th November, with a gap of around one month. The scores were 280 and 283.
The scores were quite similar. There was some sectional variation. One section increased by seven marks, another increased by eight marks, while one section decreased by 12 marks. A 5 to 7 marks variation can happen across sections, but overall, the scores remained similar.
Therefore, candidates should not believe that their NMAT score will fall simply because they appear later. The paper level remains almost similar, and the scoring pattern remains similar.
NMAT has an adaptive marking system. If the score is going higher, it is going higher based on the performance in the exam. Candidates can take the exam earlier or later based on their preparation level.
When Should You Schedule Your NMAT 2026 Attempt?
The best NMAT 2026 slot depends on your preparation and the other exams you are taking. There are three situations to consider:
- CAT is your priority, and your preparation is going well.
- CAT is your priority, but your preparation is not going well.
- You are preparing for CAT, NMAT and SNAP together.
If CAT Is Your Priority and Your Preparation Is Going Well
CAT 2026 is on 29th November. If CAT is your priority, NMAT is more of a Plan B, and your preparation is genuinely going well, you can take NMAT before CAT.
The preferred window is 2nd to 10th November, or somewhere between 2nd and 15th November. An early NMAT attempt can give you a confidence boost before CAT. If you perform well in NMAT, you get the confidence to perform well in CAT.
It also works as a rehearsal for the exam. If you are a fresher or are giving a competitive exam after many years, there can be a little panic while giving the exam. Taking NMAT before CAT can give you better exam rehearsal.
However, the preparation should genuinely be going well. If you started preparation earlier and are comfortable with the preparation, you can go for the early slots.
The score does not become lower or higher just because you take the exam early or late. It depends on your preparation and how you attempt the paper.
Early NMAT Attempt Also Gives You a Retake Option
Another advantage of an early attempt is that you get the option of giving the exam again. Retakes happen with a gap of around two weeks. A retake can be given with a 14-day gap.
This can be useful for candidates who are targeting institutes that accept the second attempt. NMIMS does not accept the second attempt. However, there are some colleges that accept the second attempt as well.
If you give NMAT in the starting part of the window, you can have the option of a retake. If you take the exam at the end of the window, the retake option may not remain.
If CAT Is Your Priority but Your Preparation Is Not Going Well
The second situation is when CAT is your priority, but your preparation is a little dicey. If you feel that your preparation has not been done very well, you started late, and your confidence is low, then take CAT first.
If you perform badly in NMAT before CAT, your confidence for CAT can also decrease. In this situation, take CAT first and then use the time available after CAT for NMAT.
There is around a two-three week period after CAT within the NMAT exam window. You can use this time to recover and prepare for NMAT.
If CAT does not go well, you can take it as positive feedback and try to do well in NMAT. So, if your NMAT preparation is not good, give NMAT after CAT.
If You Are Preparing for CAT, NMAT and SNAP
The third situation is for students who are giving NMAT and SNAP along with CAT. If you started your preparation early, around May, June or July, you can schedule NMAT in the initial phase.
The SNAP dates mentioned are 13, 19 and 26. If you are giving three SNAP attempts and schedule NMAT between these dates, the exam schedule can become hectic.
If your preparation has already been completed, give NMAT in the initial phase. Try to give NMAT in November, before CAT or around the early part of November. This gives you sufficient time for SNAP.
You can prepare separately for the two exams after giving NMAT. NMAT-specific preparation can be completed first, and the few SNAP-exclusive topics can then be covered.
The MBA entrance exams are also different. NMAT is a 2-hour test, while SNAP is a 60-minute test. The mindset required for the two exams is different.
After giving NMAT, you can focus on SNAP mocks and SNAP-specific preparation. This allows you to give both exams with full focus if you started early.
What If You Started NMAT and SNAP Preparation Late?
Starting late does not mean the preparation is over. If you are starting in August but are consistent and honestly start your preparation, three months can be used for good preparation.
If you are giving CAT, NMAT and SNAP and started preparation late, your focus should be on CAT first. After CAT, the exam-taking period can become hectic. You can take NMAT during the available dates while keeping the SNAP dates in mind.
If you are giving all three SNAP attempts, choose the NMAT slot according to the exams you are taking.
Should You Avoid Consecutive NMAT and SNAP Dates?
Yes, consecutive exam dates should be avoided where possible. SNAP dates are 13, 19 and 26, while the NMAT exam window ends on 20th December.
Suppose you take NMAT on the 18th or 20th and your SNAP date is close to it. Your SNAP attempt can become difficult to manage.
You may also have to travel if the exam city is far away. Giving two exams back-to-back and travelling between cities can become a challenge.
When booking your NMAT slot, keep the SNAP dates and your city in mind. If you want to give NMAT late, you can consider dates such as 15, 16 or 17, or a date in the first week of December.
This can be a preferred choice if you are not well prepared, are also giving CAT, or are giving CAT, NMAT and SNAP together after starting preparation late.
Should You Book the NMAT Slot Early?
NMAT 2026 scheduling has started from 20th August 2026, while scheduling will remain open till 22nd October 2026. Slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Slots can get filled, and a particular city may not have the desired slot later.
Candidates can select the city while filling the NMAT form. In metro cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, slots may continue to open later. However, candidates may face difficulty getting slots in some Tier-2 cities.
Therefore, even if you want to take NMAT later, book the slot early if you have already decided that NMAT is one of the examinations you are going to take.
The exam date can be early or late based on your preparation, but the booking should be done early if you want a desired slot. If you have not yet decided whether you want to take NMAT, you can wait for some time and figure out your preparation and exam plan.
