CMAT 2027 is scheduled for February 7, 2027, according to the NTA examination calendar.
The test will be held in CBT mode for 180 minutes and will have 100 questions carrying 400 marks. Each of the five sections has 20 questions and 80 marks, making it important to distribute preparation time across all sections.
A five-month CMAT preparation plan should move through four stages: concept building, topic-wise practice, mock tests and final revision.
Read ahead to know how to prepare for CMAT exam in 5 months.
CMAT Preparation in 5 Months: Month-Wise Plan
The five-month strategy should not give equal weight to every activity throughout the preparation period.
The first two months should build the base, the third month should increase question-solving volume, while the final two months should focus increasingly on mocks, revision and time management.
| Month | Main Target | What to Complete |
| Month 1 | Build fundamentals | Basic concepts of Quant, LR and Language; start GK and I&E notes |
| Month 2 | Complete core topics | Cover most important syllabus areas and begin sectional tests |
| Month 3 | Increase practice | Topic-wise tests, mixed sets and regular timed practice |
| Month 4 | Start intensive mocks | Full-length mocks, analysis and weak-area correction |
| Month 5 | Final revision | Mocks, error-log revision, GK updates and exam-day strategy |
How to Prepare for CMAT in the First Month?
The first month should be used to establish the basics. Do not try to complete every question type immediately. Focus on understanding the concepts that appear across multiple topics.
| Section | Month 1 Topics | Practice Target |
| Quantitative Techniques & DI | Percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, SI-CI, time-speed-distance, linear equations | 15-20 questions/day |
| Logical Reasoning | Analogy, coding-decoding, series, directions, blood relations, arrangements | 15-20 questions/day |
| Language Comprehension | Grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, error spotting, para jumbles | 20 questions/day |
| General Awareness | Static GK basics + daily current affairs | 30-45 min/day |
| Innovation & Entrepreneurship | Entrepreneurial concepts, types of entrepreneurs, innovation basics | 30-45 min/day |
Quant and DI
Start with arithmetic because it supports several other question types. Once percentages, ratios, averages and basic calculations become comfortable, move to algebra and number-system concepts.
For DI, begin with tables, bar graphs, line graphs and pie charts. The goal in the first month is not speed. It is to identify the calculation method quickly.
Logical Reasoning
Start with shorter and more direct topics such as analogy, coding-decoding, directions, blood relations and series. Move to linear, circular and matrix arrangements after becoming comfortable with basic reasoning.
Maintain a separate notebook for recurring patterns and mistakes.
Language Comprehension
Divide preparation between vocabulary and question-solving. Revise synonyms, antonyms, idioms, one-word substitutions and common grammar rules.
Solve short reading passages regularly rather than postponing reading comprehension until later.
GK and Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Create two separate revision sheets. One should cover static GK, while the other should track important current events.
For Innovation & Entrepreneurship, focus on terminology, entrepreneurial models, innovation concepts, funding and challenges faced by businesses.
How to Prepare for CMAT in Second Month?
By the end of the second month, the basic concepts should be mostly covered. The focus should now shift from learning a topic to solving different types of questions from it.
| Section | Month 2 Focus | Weekly Target |
| Quant + DI | Algebra, number system, geometry, modern maths and mixed DI | 5-6 practice sessions |
| Logical Reasoning | Arrangements, syllogisms, statements, arguments, inference | 5-6 practice sessions |
| Language | RC, para jumbles, fill in the blanks, grammar revision | 5-6 practice sessions |
| General Awareness | Static GK revision + current affairs | Daily |
| Innovation & Entrepreneurship | Entrepreneurship theories, innovation framework, startup funding | 4-5 sessions |
At this stage, start taking sectional tests. A sectional test should be followed by analysis. Simply checking the score does not show why marks were lost.
Track mistakes under three categories:
| Mistake Type | What It Indicates | Action |
| Conceptual | Topic is not understood | Relearn the concept |
| Calculation/reading | Avoidable error | Slow down and check working |
| Time-related | Question took too long | Practise similar questions with a timer |
How to Prepare for CMAT in 3 Months?
The third month should be the transition from syllabus completion to exam-oriented preparation. By this point, most major topics should have been studied at least once.
Month 3 Weekly CMAT Study Plan
| Day | Quant + DI | LR | Language | GK/I&E |
| Monday | Arithmetic | Analytical reasoning | Grammar | Current affairs |
| Tuesday | Algebra | Arrangements | RC | Static GK |
| Wednesday | DI | Verbal reasoning | Vocabulary | I&E |
| Thursday | Number system | Analytical reasoning | Para-based questions | Current affairs |
| Friday | Geometry/Modern Maths | Mixed LR | RC + grammar | Static GK |
| Saturday | Mixed Quant | LR sectional test | Language sectional test | I&E revision |
| Sunday | Quant sectional test | LR revision | Language revision | Weekly GK revision |
The target should now be mixed practice rather than chapter-wise practice alone. CMAT preparation becomes more effective when you stop knowing in advance which concept a question will test.
How to Prepare for CMAT in 4 Months?
The fourth month should be heavily focused on mock tests and performance analysis. Do not wait until the last few weeks to take full-length CMAT mocks.
| Activity | Month 4 Frequency |
| Full-length CMAT mock | 1-2 per week initially |
| Sectional tests | 3-4 per week |
| Quant/LR mixed practice | 4-5 sessions per week |
| RC practice | 4-5 sessions per week |
| GK revision | Daily |
| Innovation & Entrepreneurship revision | 3 sessions per week |
| Error-log revision | 2-3 sessions per week |
How to Prepare for CMAT in 5 Months?
The fifth month should be treated as the final revision and testing phase. Avoid starting large new topics during the final days unless they are short and scoring areas.
| Preparation Area | What to Do in Month 5 |
| Quant + DI | Revise formulas, shortcuts and frequently missed question types |
| Logical Reasoning | Practise mixed sets under time limits |
| Language | Revise vocabulary, grammar rules and RC approaches |
| General Awareness | Revise accumulated notes and important recent events |
| Innovation & Entrepreneurship | Revisit definitions, concepts, funding and innovation-related topics |
| Mocks | Take full-length tests regularly |
| Error Log | Revise every repeated mistake |
How Many Hours to Study for CMAT in 5 Months?
The required study time depends on how much of the syllabus is already familiar. A structured weekly schedule is more useful than setting unrealistic daily goals.
| Preparation Stage | Study Time per Day | Main Focus |
| Month 1 | 3-4 hours | Concepts and basic practice |
| Month 2 | 4-5 hours | Syllabus completion + sectional tests |
| Month 3 | 4-5 hours | Mixed practice + timed sets |
| Month 4 | 5-6 hours | Mocks + analysis + weak areas |
| Month 5 | 5-6 hours | Revision + mocks + test strategy |
Conclusion
A five-month CMAT plan can be divided into a simple progression: Month 1 for fundamentals, Month 2 for syllabus coverage, Month 3 for intensive practice,
Month 4 for mock-based improvement and Month 5 for final revision. With 100 questions spread evenly across five sections, preparation should not become heavily dependent on one subject.
For structured preparation, MBA Karo’s CMAT course can be used alongside self-study for concept lessons, practice and exam-focused preparation. Its course and mock resources can help candidates combine topic preparation with regular testing.
